Sacramental Preparation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession).

“Receive the Holy Spirit.

If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven.

If you retain the sins of any, they are retained. “

– John 20:21-23

The Sacrament of Reconciliation (or Confession) is offered weekly on Saturday at Our Lady of the Rosary at 10.30 am – 11.00am and on every last Saturday of the month at St. Bernard’s 10.30 – 11.00am. In an emergency, please contact the Parish  Office to book an appointment.

The sacrament of Reconciliation has the following elements

  • Contrition
  • Confession
  • Celebration
  • Absolution

There are two types of sins: Venial and Mortal Sins.

Venial Sins: These are sins that do not set us in direct opposition to the will and friendship of God. Sins that can be remitted by contrition and reception of other sacraments. They are sins that should also form part of what we declared at confession to a priest.

Mortal Sins: These are grave sins which are in violation of God’s law and turn us away from God. If we are aware of having committed a mortal sin, we must first participate in the sacrament of reconciliation before frequent Holy Communion.
